Junior Mariah Ayers was one of just eight GISD students who advanced to the recent state UIL track and field competition. She was also one of just nine athletes across the state to qualify for the 200-meter dash.
During the annual Garland Sports Hall of Fame banquet, two students received a $1,000 scholarship and were named 2018 Gale Fields Award winners. SHS coach Donna McCullough was also one of just four 2018 inductees.
South Garland High School junior Tyrese Maxey tied the record for the most points scored by one player in a class 6A state tournament game, earning him the title of SportsDay High School Player of the Year for 2018.
