Getting a head start on future literary careers, 18 Garland ISD fourth, fifth and sixth-graders received recognition during the district’s Jan. 10 board meeting as published authors. Trustees awarded them Evidence of Excellence certificates for winning the 2016 I Write Short Stories by Kids for Kids contest. They are among just 70 students to have short stories and poems selected for a recently-released anthology.
On December 13, 2016, the Garland ISD Board of Trustees adopted a resolution to explore becoming a District of Innovation. Becoming a District of Innovation offers public school districts various opportunities for increased flexibility with state statutes in order to better serve students and the community.
