Commended for its college-going culture, Garland ISD recently won the Dallas County Promise Bright Spot Award for a 5 percent increase in postsecondary enrollment over the last two years.

GISD schools are among just 69 statewide to receive a CREST Award from the Texas School Counselor Association. CREST stands for Counselors Reinforcing Excellence for Students in Texas.

Several students recently organized drives to support the GRS Giving Place, which serves the district’s foster care, homeless and disadvantaged population.

Students and staff made fashion statements to support higher learning during College Day, while more than 2,000 received valuable information during College Night.

Recognized for helping students pursue post-high school success, Naaman Forest HS was named the Naviance College and Career Readiness winner in the 2017 Hobsons Education Advances Awards.

This year, just 62 campuses statewide earned the CREST distinction, and 19 of them are in Garland ISD. That means the district represents nearly one-third of all winners.
