Nurses enhance, impact campuses districtwide

Like teachers, secretaries, custodians, cafeteria staff and administrators, Garland ISD nurses are are vital to student success. GISD is fortunate to have a registered nurse (RN) at every campus—a bragging right brought on by putting students first.

GISD features one-of-a-kind STEAM event

GISD is home to the one-day STEAMposium—the area’s largest showcase of student engineers and inventors. The one-of-a-kind event features STEM projects and challenges, enlightening seminars, guest speakers and good-hearted fun.

AP test participation on the rise

With college costs on the rise, so too is the amount of Garland ISD students taking advantage of opportunities to decrease them. The district now offers free Advanced Placement exams.

Bond 2014 program seeks local business

A Community Outreach Event will be held from 4-9 p.m. Sept. 24 at the CCC. Discussion topics include upcoming projects, how to bid for contracts and how to become an approved vendor with the district.

Trustees issued a resolution regarding Senate Bill 149, which allows students to graduate without passing all five End of Course exams, and voted to upgrade weight room flooring and equipment.

GISD receives highest bond rating

GISD will soon sell its first batch of bonds in preparation to start projects this summer. The approximately $200 million sale will no doubt be helped by a report just released from Fitch Ratings.
