Board Notes: February 13, 2018

Thanks to the Garland ISD Board of Trustees, Rowlett High School’s Eagle Theatre Company will take the trip of a lifetime this summer. Trustees also received an update on the district’s student management plan.

Eighth-grader crowned Spelling Bee champion

Gracie Graham bested dozens of other elementary and middle school competitors to win the district’s 2018 Spelling Bee. She spelled 26 words correctly, including the one that gave her the victory—zinnia.

GISD seeks It’s Time Texas two-peat

Students, staff, parents and community members are invited to participate in the It’s Time Texas Community Challenge, committing to health and helping defend the district's 2017 title.

GHS junior receives athletic acclaim

An athletic standout not only in Garland ISD but across the state of Texas, Garland High School junior Isabel Borrego recently earned several accolades in the sport of cross country running.

Garland ISD Trustees discussed new legislation for school districts, including the role of school boards, at their Jan. 9 work session. Board President Larry Glick called attention to additional responsibilities regarding academic achievement.
