Carver staff named Educators of the Year

Wendy Williams and Melody McAllister were both named 2017 Educators of the Year by the NAACP Garland Unit. Williams serves as the principal at Carver, while McAllister teaches fifth grade.

New GRCTC earns first-ever recognition

Several classes collaborated to win Best Use of Space at Park(ing) Day Dallas 2017, an eco-friendly event that challenges participants to temporarily turn parking spaces into parks.

GISD welcomes new superintendent

The district’s Board of Trustees named Dr. Ricardo López as lone finalist Oct. 10, and after a state-mandated 21-day waiting period, named him superintendent of schools Nov. 4.

JA BizTown® opens doors and minds

Garland ISD students recently made regional history. Sixth-graders from Webb Middle School became the first to step into North Texas’ inaugural JA BizTown, kicking off the district’s newest hands-on learning experience Oct. 17.
