Welcome! We’re delighted that you’ve chosen to join the Garland ISD family. The enrollment process described below will mark the start of your child's customizable and exceptional education experience.

We encourage you to start the enrollment process early to help ensure your child secures a spot at the desired school or one near your home. The three steps to complete enrollment are listed below.

  • previous school records with a copy of your student's Home Language Survey if you are enrolling in GISD for the first time

What can be used as proof of residency?

To prove that you live within district boundaries, please provide either:

  • most current water, gas or electric bill*

*All proof of residency must show a service address and be dated within the last 30 days.

Paper enrollment for the upcoming school year is also available at our schools. When schools are closed during the summer, families will go to the Manuel & Maria Valle Student Services Center to complete the paper enrollment application and finalize the enrollment process.

What to expect during your enrollment visit

Please allow plenty of time to finalize your enrollment.

Some circumstances may require special forms, signatures of other parties or a notary. Please note that not all schools have a notary on staff.

During enrollment, you will:

  • be asked to provide general information about your child on the Enrollment form.
  • complete the Directory Information Form to indicate your preferences regarding disclosure of certain personal information.
  • choose the school you would like your child to attend. If space is not available at your school of choice, you may request placement on a waiting list. Student Services can help with finding an available school.
  • receive your Skyward Family Access login and password.
Language testing

If your student's home language is a language other than English, the Enrollment Center will conduct a language test for your child. This test is used to determine how to best meet your student’s needs and can take up to three hours depending on the age and ability level of your student. Trained staff who speak English and Spanish will be able to assist you throughout the entire enrollment process and will connect you with support services such as the Enrollment Center Clinic and Migrant Program liaison if needed.
