Graduation ceremonies

Graduation update

5/22 Update

Dear Class of 2020 Families:

Today we were informed that the City of Arlington fire marshal is interpreting TEA graduation guidelines to mean that each graduate is limited to five tickets for the ceremony.

As a result, each graduate will receive five (5) free tickets to be used only by members of the same household for graduation. There will not be an opportunity to buy/receive additional tickets.

Please know that we advocated strongly to get six tickets for our families. However, this is out of our control, and the decision is final.

In addition, Globe Life Park notified us of these added rules that will be in place:

  • Prior to attending the ceremony, graduates and guests will be screened via questioning by staff for any signs or symptoms of possible COVID-19.
  • No outside items or bags (other than diaper bags and medical bags) will be allowed, including flowers, balloons, and signs.  However, guests are allowed to bring in one sealed bottle of water. For a specific list of items that are prohibited, see the frequently asked questions section below.
  • No items will be distributed to guests, and there will be no concessions. Graduation programs will be given out with tickets.  A link to each program will be available on this page for viewing access during the ceremony.
  • All guests will be screened through a metal detector as they enter.
  • For safety, only flat bottom shoes (no heels) are allowed on the turf field for all graduates.
  • The ceremony is limited to 90 minutes. Guests and graduates will be allowed to enter one hour prior to start of ceremony.
  • No congregating will be allowed before or after the ceremony. Guests will be dismissed in sections to move immediately to cars after ceremony ends.

Ticket pick-up information is coming soon, and we will communicate that once details are received from Globe Life Park.

We understand this ever-changing situation is challenging. Our focus is on celebrating our graduates with a memorable and meaningful event that commemorates and honors their accomplishments in the safest way possible.

We asked for your feedback, and we heard you!  Of the more than 2400 responses received, an overwhelming majority wanted in-person graduation and requested more than two guest tickets.

We listened and responded to meet those needs. As a result, the graduation venue has been changed to Globe Life Park in Arlington.

Note: Graduation details are subject to change based on guidelines from local, state and federal authorities.

Graduation participation information

We highly encourage all students, staff, and any other visitors to wear cloth face coverings over the nose and mouth while inside the facility or within six feet of another person who is not a member of that person’s household, except when photos are taken.

Prior to attending the ceremony, participating students and attending family members will be screened via questioning by staff for any of the following new or worsening signs or symptoms of possible COVID-19:

  • Cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, loss of taste or smell, diarrhea, feeling feverish or a measured temperature greater than or equal to 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit, known close contact with a person who is lab confirmed to have COVID-19 if exposure to the active confirmed case occurred within the last 14 days.
  • Those found with any of the signs or symptoms above will not be allowed into the graduation venue.

Graduates may only be brought together for one event, so no rehearsals will be held.

District employees at the ceremony will be limited to the minimum number needed to logistically support the ceremony.

School employees will be stationed appropriately to ensure compliance with all requirements and to limit people gathering in groups.

We will continue to communicate plans to address steps to be taken before, during, and after the ceremony to ensure that participants are aware of safety protocols at the ceremony and explicit instructions to graduates about not gathering outside before or after the ceremony.

We will communicate with families prior to the ceremony to determine how many family members will be attending to plan for social distancing measures, logistics, and other safety measures.

Specific plans will be developed for arrivals and departures to ensure appropriate social distancing.
