Every year, the It’s Time Texas Community Challenge pits cities and school districts against one another to see which has the greatest commitment to healthy living. In 2017, Garland ISD won first place in the large school district category, earning the most points of all participating districts. The City of Garland also won the large community category.
GISD hopes to defend its title this year and is asking for help. All students, staff, parents and community members are encouraged to register online at www.ittcommunitychallenge.com. Make sure to select Garland, Rowlett or Sachse as the community when signing up because participants earn points just by registering. Posting healthy selfies, tracking physical activity and weight loss, hosting fitness-focused events, etc., can also earn additional points. The community and school district with the highest total March 4 will not only win a title but a cash prize as well.
