DECA chapters impress, advance in competition

Students from all seven district high schools recently dominated in competition with their skills. All Garland ISD DECA chapters won multiple medals in the 2018 Texas DECA District 11 Career Development Conference, advancing 79 students to state.

“DECA competitive events include role plays, content exams, sales presentations and research events,” said Lakeview Centennial High School teacher and DECA advisor Christopher Fleming.

The student organization prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.  After showcasing their talent, GISD’s budding trailblazers secured individual and campus wins at district. Naaman Forest and Lakeview Centennial high schools received distinctions for membership and social media, respectively.

Winning students will compete at the Texas State Career Development Conference Feb. 20-22 in Dallas, vying for a spot in the international meet in April.
