Garland ISD honors retirees for impact, commitment to education

More than 100 longtime educators were honored and thanked for their dedication to Garland ISD during the annual Retirement Banquet in April. GISD’s 2017-18 retirees have served the district for a combined total of more than 2,000 years. Executive Director of Data Administrative Systems Butch Sloan is this year's longest-serving retiree, dedicating 43 years to GISD.

Superintendent Ricardo López welcomed guests with words of appreciation, while Garland Retired School Personnel President Leigh Anne Stockdale encouraged the accomplished group to continue impacting the district. The Board of Trustees and members of administration then hand-delivered framed certificates and gifts, with those serving more than 30 years in GISD receiving a glass table clock. After that, the Naaman Forest High School Jazz Orchestra provided musical entertainment.

The event ended with the esteemed guests taking selfies, reminiscing with colleagues, and looking forward to their next chapter in life.
