For more than 30 years, the artwork of Garland ISD students has helped ring in the holiday season thanks to the district’s annual Fifth Grade Greeting Card Contest. It begins at the campus level every year with elementaries determining one entry to represent the school. A panel of judges then votes on the districtwide winners.
The 2018 competition featured 18 schools and submissions that ranged from drawing to painting to digital art. Following a vote that included a tie, four winners were announced, including:
- Andrew Duong, Back Elementary School
- Anna Tankersley, Kimberlin Academy for Excellence
- Cameron McNeal, Roach Elementary School
- Chloe Chuong, Sewell Elementary School
Cards printed with these students’ designs were sent by the district to dignitaries across the state. Each of the winners also received 50 copies of their own. And, they were recognized by the GISD Board of Trustees with an Evidence of Excellence award Dec. 11.
