Canvas for families

Canvas is the learning platform used by all GISD students. Canvas allows students to interact during classes, actively engage in assignments, take quizzes, collaborate with peers, communicate with teachers, and more.

All courses are housed in Canvas. Canvas will be for every student, every day regardless of their selected mode of instruction. Face-to-face students will participate in blended learning through the system while fully-remote students will be able to access all coursework. Teachers will be able to host their live lessons via Google Meets and house them in Canvas as well as document attendance, assignments and all communication to students and parents.

5 New  Google Meet Features UpdatesAll Levels

Google has recently released 5 new features to Google Meets including:

  • 49 Person Tiled Layout
  • Blurred Backgrounds
  • Interactive Whiteboards
  • Breakout Rooms
  • Polls and Q&A

Classroom teachers may be using some of these new features.

Your child can now blur the background of their video in a Google Meet. When it’s turned on, Meet will separate you from the background, blurring your surroundings while keeping you clear and in focus.

To blur the background, click the three more dots and select turn on background blur.

Canvas and Google Drive  

Are you receiving the Request Access notice in Canvas? Link your student's Google Drive to canvas as shown in this image. After logging into the student's class, click Google Drive, then Authorize at the bottom. Make sure you choose the GISD student email account.
