Playgrounds for Elementary and Pre-K
ADA-accessible playgrounds at our elementary and Pre-K schools were part of the planned facility upgrades in Prop A of the 2023 Bond program.
Completed Spring 2026
In addition to the new playgrounds for the prekindergarten campuses, each elementary school features two ADA-accessible playgrounds, one for younger students and one for older students, each equipped with canopies. The shaded areas provide a safer, cooler, and more enjoyable recess experience, allowing students to play longer while staying protected from the Texas sun.
A notable upgrade is the replacement of wood chips with an ADA-compliant surface that is safer, cleaner, and more durable. The surface features a low pile height for easier wheelchair access and is equipped with built-in antistatic technology, creating a safe environment for children with cochlear implants.
The new surface is built to last and will remain functional for years. With no loose wood chips, the area stays clean and tidy, while antimicrobial properties help prevent bacteria and mildew. These improvements make recess safer, more inclusive, and reduce maintenance needs and costs for the district.
