Beaver Technology Center for Math & Science fourth graders brought classroom concepts to life during Education in Action’s Discover Texas Field Trip to Austin and Georgetown on Friday, May 2, 2025. Students explored the Texas State Capitol and Inner Space Cavern through a day full of hands-on learning.

The adventure began on the bus ride, where students engaged in games and discussions about Texas pride and heritage. In Austin, they visited the Texas State Capitol and toured the Senate and House of Representatives chambers, learning about the legislative process and where state laws are made. They also stopped by the offices of their legislators, The Honorable Bob Hall, State Senator for District 2, and The Honorable Ana-Maria Ramos, State Representative for District 102.

Next, the group headed to Georgetown to explore Inner Space Cavern. There, students panned for minerals, conducted demonstrations on the water cycle and environmental science, and classified rock, mineral, and fossil samples in teams. The day wrapped up with a guided tour through the cavern’s natural formations, giving students a real-world view of Earth’s processes in action.

“Education in Action's Discover Texas Field Trips are based on the understanding that the most effective way for students to learn is through experience,” stated Jennifer Pasteur, Education in Action's Executive Director. “Student activities during Discover Texas Field Trips reinforce and supplement Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) learning objectives in fun and hands-on ways at significant Texas sites that bring the content to life.”

Education in Action’s Discover Texas Field Trips make it easy for teachers to take their 3rd, 4th, or 5th-grade classrooms on organized, fun, and educational site-based learning experiences.
