CCBMS 2x magnet school of distinction award recipient

The Classical Center at Brandenburg Middle School has once again been named a National Merit School of Distinction by Magnet Schools of America (MSA), earning the recognition for the second consecutive year. The honor reflects the program’s continued dedication to strong academics, artistic development, and healthy competition.

“Receiving this recognition two years in a row sets Brandenburg Middle School apart,” said Principal Randy King. “It isn’t a fluke or a coincidence. What we are building at Brandenburg is intentional, and this honor validates the work happening every day on our campus.”

Brandenburg’s program challenges students to excel in  academics, arts, and competition. Blending classical art history with hands-on creative experiences sparks critical thinking, creativity, and discipline.

“I am extremely proud of our students, staff, and community,” King said. “Being the only GISD campus, and one of the few in Texas, to earn this distinction speaks to the commitment across our campus. Everyone plays a role, and that shared effort is what makes Brandenburg special. Just like our motto, ‘Be Bold, Be Brave, Every Student, Every Day,' we come together as a family to tackle challenges. I am blessed more than I deserve.”

King added that the Classical Center aims to set the standard for excellence in academics, the arts, and competition for middle schools. The fine arts-focused magnet campus offers a wide range of courses, including band, choir, art, theatre, piano, gymnastics, and dance.

“We are an A-rated campus with strong academics and a top athletic program in GISD,” King said. “That combination has led to strong interest in our program and a growing waitlist.”

As a campus-wide magnet school, Brandenburg allows all students to participate in its programs, regardless of magnet status. This inclusive model supports collaboration and ensures students across the campus benefit from the school’s specialized offerings.

“Magnet schools are vital because they give students a place to belong and a place to grow their talents,” King said. “That’s what we do at Brandenburg, and we are just getting started.”

The National Merit School of Distinction designation is awarded to magnet programs that demonstrate academic achievement, promote diversity, deliver an integrated curriculum, and maintain strong partnerships with families and the community. Schools complete a rigorous application and review process conducted by a national panel of educators.

Magnet Schools of America will recognize this year’s recipients during its 2026 National Conference in April.
