One of America’s Top Custodians Works at Sachse High School
He’s known for his heart, dedication, and Mustang pride. Now, he’s officially one of the best custodians in America.
Rosalio “Lio” Rodriguez thought he was heading to a routine event on the Sachse High School football field. Instead, he walked into the surprise of a lifetime.
Rodriguez, the school’s lead custodian, has been named one of the top three Custodians of the Year nationwide, as recognized by the Cintas Corporation. The news was delivered with Mustang pride as Cintas partnered with Sachse staff to orchestrate a surprise celebration complete with the band, cheerleaders, drill team, hundreds of students, and even Lio’s family, who were secretly invited to witness the big reveal.
“This honor couldn’t go to a more deserving person,” shared Lynn Daniel, GISD Director of Custodial Services. “Lio brings dedication, positivity, and heart to the school every single day. He’s a vital part of the Mustang family.”
The Custodian of the Year program, now in its 12th year, was created to celebrate the often-unsung heroes who keep schools clean, safe, and running smoothly. According to contest leader Christiny Betsch, thousands of nominees nationwide were considered before narrowing the field to ten outstanding finalists. From there, public voting helped determine the top three.
Rodriguez’s impact and reputation helped him rise to the top, and now, he’s being celebrated on a national stage.
As a top-three finalist, Rodriguez will receive a $1,000 cash prize and an all-expenses-paid trip for two to Las Vegas to honor his contributions to the school community.
“Thank you for the support and this big surprise,” Rodriguez shared with a smile. “I’m so proud to be part of Sachse High School.”
Known for his upbeat attitude, strong work ethic, and constant support of students and staff, Rodriguez has become a pillar of the Sachse campus. Whether he’s lending a hand, sharing a smile, or cheering on the Mustangs, his presence leaves a lasting mark.
He may be one of the top three in the nation, but at Sachse High, Lio will always be number one.
